Here Am I

An awesome oppurtunity to sing a song from a local artist, Matt Papa, at Brookwood Church for our World Missions Sunday. The video that was shown on the screen behind us had some great clips of missionaries that we have all over the world and some trips we have taken. A great song to use if you are doing anything dealing with missions!

A Life Worth Living

Ready To Rock
I am so thankful for my position, leaders, mentors and people God has put in my path to be involved with. To learn from, to teach, be guided, and guide. Today we celebrated Brookwoods 15th anniversary, which I have been there for 14 of those years! I have grown up with this family and seen amazing people speak into my life and build me to be the person I am today. I am far from perfect but I love God, adore my Wife, and am blessed in more ways that I can express in one blog. It was a great day to see all of the folks from our church family join together as one to worship what God has done, and what he will continue to do.

The part God has me plugged into and allows me to be apart of is the student worship bands. We have over 20 students now plugged into different bands and growing rapidly. He is letting them use their talents to praise Him and teaching them what worship is about and equipping them to be worship leaders in their colleges, schools and churches. I am so thankful God has included me in this plan. I know that I can’t do any of it on my own, but only by God’s divine plan and purpose will it continue to grow. So step back from your own agenda and see what God has planned for you.

This is a little piece of gold for my soul I will hold close to my heart always! I left my video camera in the green room and some of the band decided to be silly and record this video:

These guys have a heart for God and for other people. They are creative, passionate and have only just begun to live their lives. I am blessed to be a part of their journey and will look back on this clip and others like it. We deal with hard things, we aren’t all perfect, but we are all given grace and by that we can have joy like this that will continue on for eternity. It won’t be short lived, it won’t be forgotten. I am pretty sure I’ll be remembering this very moment in heaven and savoring the gift it was from God.

I want to live a life that fills up other people and that is full of joy, even in the pain. We have had many hardships in our church over even just the past couple of weeks, and this day all of that was forgotten, and God was praised through all the craziness!

Everywhere I Go

We had fun covering Lincoln Brewsters new single “Everywhere I Go”
This was a fun night especially with some different folks from high school playing in the band. The reason we created the “Varsitybad(s)” youtube page is because it’s GROWING bigtime. We have an audition in a couple of weeks that is somewhere around 16-20 kids auditioning for different parts. I’m very excited to see God grow this ministry in such a huge way and using students to lead in worship and getting skills they will need when they head off to college.

You will probably see very soon the middle school band, that’s right it’s led by middle schoolers, doing a special night of leading worship for the High Schoolers! Let me tell you they are just as good as these guys! God is doing huge things in the ministries at Brookwood and this is just one of them!

Prepared to be copied.

I once read this on a beer bottle. Not mine, I hate beer. I tried it for the first time at the age of 23, and was disgusted by it. I did once think about trying some I had found under my brothers bed when I was a teen, but after sneaking it in to my room and cracking it open, I was far to repulsed at the smell and dumped it down the drain.

Anywho, Originality is hard to come by, and as soon as you do, you have someone copying you. I am not claiming I’m original, although I did create the world renowned Coffee And Cereal denied by Starbucks, but hopefully the guys at Mythbusters will redeem it for me.

We all want to be original, and we all love to create. I am somewhat a constant brainstorm of ideas. I’m not saying I’m brilliant, but I look at something, sometimes a problem, sometimes something I wish I had, and I try to create a solution. I keep a Moleskin Notepad in my back pocket to etch out drawings, or write down something while I’m driving down the road. Here are some things I’ve written down that I probably will never happen, some I will keep to myself that may though :-D:

Songs that are stories. I’m a fan of songs that take me somewhere. How I write songs is I first create a music video, or a play in my head, then write lyrics to describe what’s going on, or the general emotion.

Random thoughts for youtube: “Guns and Geeks”- Guys with guns shooting the latest gadget to kingdom come. I would love to grab an AR-15 and shoot a Google Android. I’m not violent nor can I shoot a weapon.

“TurkeyBack” I thought it would be great to write a spoof of Sexyback with the words TurkeyBack for thanksgiving. To my dismay, it has already been DONE. After watching this guys attempt, I’m glad I never tried.

“Can You Fry It?” I still would love to do this with some gadgets!

THEN, the iPod touch notepad came around. This has brought me to a new level of addiction for scribbling down ideas.

One of my FAVORITES that I have on my iPod touch is a list of things I constantly update when I discover something new that I love. Consider it a Bucket List of things I love..
Here it is up to date:

Things I love:
My Wife
Music
Snow covering everything
Singing loud in my car
A hot cup of coffee sitting and watching people
Road trips with my wife where we talk for hours
Waking up on a trip to my wife singing at the top of her lungs
Hanging out eating with friends
The beach at night
The mountains in fall
Driving when snow is falling
Treating my wife like a Queen
Falling asleep when i’ve been playing hard
Sunlight on my skin in 70 degree weather
How creative people can be
Dancing(moving) to a good beat
Cup of coffee on a rainy day
Washing my hands with warm water when I’m chilly(when I was a kid, I would fill the sink with very hot water and put my palms on it)

That’s enough of that for now!

So, this can’t even begin to describe what goes on in my brain throughout the day. Do you know what things you love? Do you think about them and savor them? I do!

Recently at Brookwood we’ve been talking about “One Month To Live” and it makes me realize even more how much more I should love everyone, live fully, humbly, and serve with a heart that doesn’t care about what I’m getting out of it.

So, if you don’t already, I encourage you to start up your own list of things you love. Look at it often, savor those things that make life great!

Oh yeah, if you are tempted to live me a comment, don’t. Click the NEXT button instead and read someone else’s blog and comment!

Rain Down Varsity

It was a cool night at Varsity. It was especially cool singing this song after we had talked about Christ calming the storm. The students had just made some commitments to find out what is keeping them from keeping their eyes on Christ, and spent some time talking with the adult leaders at the front of the stage in tears prayer. It was a great night and it’s amazing to see how God is using everyone involved to influence and change students lives!

These guys are amazing, and I love seeing what God is doing in their lives.

A family from Brookwood Church is on the Biggest Losers Families and we will keep an eye on them and pray they win. They have a son with autism and another son who is part of our middle school group Wired. Very cool to see a local family going there and we will be supporting them!

Amy and Phillip-The dubbing is off on this casting call video but still cool.

There is also a clip of them on the website about them and a brief video of their family. Check it out HERE

Songs We Sing

The Student Bands at Brookwood for Varsity and Wired have been blessed over and over with more students and more talent. I just wanted to share some videos of songs we have done. This is some of our high schoolers leading in worship for other high schoolers, and to me that is just a crazy cool thing! God is big and has some huge plans for this ministry and it’s a fun ride never knowing what’s next.

Spring of Life-Kristian Stanfill

Hallelujah- Paramore

Our God is Love- Lee Mcderment

First up we have the Varsity Band on youtube. The Wired band youtube page is coming as well! Anywho, if you’d like to keep updated on the videos from Varsity, Brookwood Church high school ministry, full of crazy cool lights, fun songs and all that jazz. If you’d like to subscribe on youtube click HERE Here is the first video of one of our favorite songs to do, although we do it very seldom now. We will keep it updated with all the special songs, and any new songs we do. Hope you enjoy the clips, and if you like go to the page and comment and rate the videos!

Oh yeah, we are keeping track of views and reporting all that with the rest of the stuff so we aren’t violating any copyright laws, for now.
Coming up later from tonight will be “Spring of Life” by Kristian Stanfill, “Our God is Love” by Lee Mcderment(I actually asked him if it was alright that we used this song months ago, great song!) and “Hallelujah” by Paramore

Student Worship Band Compilation

Here is a view videos of the band that plays for the Wired and Varsity Ministrys at Brookwood Church.
This is only a view of the kids who play and we have a lot more talent that is in the band but used these guys on one sunday morning. I thought I would put all the clips from this Sunday together in one blog so people could check them out! Here they are.

One extra note! I am showing these videos so people can be encouraged seeing students lead worship in such a big way! God is moving in a huge way in these students life and they are opting to lead worship and even write songs glorifying God and to me that is amazing! I knew that this could never happen through my will but only if God wanted it to happen, he brought in some kids with great hearts and it has exploded and been growing ever since!
