My Mom. Moyo(Heart) for Africa

A few years back my mother went to Africa, Kenya and Tanzania, and had dreamed about going since she was a young girl. When she went she saw the poverty, the amazing hearts, the beautiful places surrounded by waist, and children who needed help. After she returned she shared her passion with everyone, including me, telling me I had to go to truly understand. I told her no chance, but I’d support her in Africa, and within six months I was going as an intern with BigStuf Camps teamed up with Compassion International. If God wants you somewhere he will make sure you are there, as long as you are wiling.

My mom will be returning to Africa on her Birthday, October 16th and is asking for mostly prayers, but if you want to support financially you can as well. Check out her post about what she will be doing. P.S. I went to the exact same places my mom did when she went to Africa, it was a very cool thing to see and changed my heart forever!

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Hellen Keller

My adventure will begin on October 16. Once again I will be walking on Kenyan soil. As one of the leaders for WOW (Widows and Orphans of the World) I will be attending a conference with the widows we are working with and some dignitaries from the Kenyan government. This conference will begin on Oct. 22. WOW needs the government to be supportive and in agreement with our vision for it’s widows.

We will be accompanied by the Kenyan WOW representatives, Mrs Lucy and Mickey. Mrs. Lucy runs an orphanage that houses over two hundred children. She also operates a school for over 600 children from the surrounding area She is an awesome woman who believes that all things are possible through Christ. Her visions for Africa have no boundaries. She gives hope and encouragement to everyone who cross her path.
Mickey is a pastor who also runs a preschool for the children of the slums. He will be taking us into the slums to meet the children and their parents. Aids is rampant in Africa. Many of the widows there have lost their husbands and family members to this dreadful disease. The treatment for Aids is costly and out of reach for most of the people of Africa.

The recent killings in the slums of Nairobi took the lives of over 800 men. The widows who are left behind are in hopeless situations. WOW wants to help them find ways to take care of themselves and their children. Please keep them in your prayers. The rent for a one room shack (I do mean shack) is around 15 dollars a month. It sounds like nothing to us, but it is overwhelming to them. The cost of living since the political uprising has increased 40%. Life has become a challenge for these women. They must learn a way to earn money.

Mickey will be taking us to the island of the Suba people. They live without electricty and technology. They saw their first motorized vechile on the island in March of 2007. The roads they are trying to build have not yet been completed, so the vechile did not go very far. The population of the island is 30,000. Fishing is the way most make their limited income. Aids, malaria and other proverty illnesses have taken the lives of many at young ages. Mickey wants WOW to consider putting in an orphange for the many children
whose parents died of aids.

I have been blessed with a wonderful life and the greatest children a parent could pray for. They have all become awesome human beings with skills and passions that are greater than I could ever hope for. To say the least, I am proud of my family. My husband is one of the most compassionate men on the planet. He has taught me more than he knows and has always supported me in all things. I love him more than I thought was possible.

This is what I wish for the widows. To have familes that are doing great things and living full lives filled with hope and promise. With help from WOW, this could be a possiblity for them.

I am requesting your prayers for WOW and what we are doing in Africa. Finacial support for my trip would be greatly appreciated. I promise to be a good steward to anything that you feel led to give. Please remember to pray for us (the leaders of WOW ) by name.
We are Linda, Angela, Sharon, Claire, Lucy and Mickey. May the power and glory of Christ be spread all over Africa and the world. We serve a mighty God, and through him, all things are possible.

So please send up your prayers for her safety and for God to be seen in everything they do by the people in Africa!

ALSO. If you have a heart for Africa I encourage you to check out A Night For Africa featuring BigStuf creator Lanny Dohono and “You Might Be A Redneck”
Jeff Foxworthy. Check out what they are doing and how we can impact the heart of Africa!

A friend that I have blogged a few times before about, has just had a book released from John Piper that he did some amazing illustrations for. It’s 128 page poem about Job and is a definite buy for the poem and especially for the art. Cruise on over to Koelle Art- art+life+family to check out a few of the illustrations. Can’t wait to see what he does next. I’m hoping maybe a graphic novel of sorts Chris?

Youtube Student Singers

I blog about music, especially youtube music a lot. Some folks say that it’s copying and there isn’t anything original, but i’m seeing more talent on youtube than I see on the radio or iTunes everyday.
Not only are people covering songs in their own way, but the recording quality is getting better and people and people’s interpretations of songs is exciting me.

I work with students and love seeing teens doing great things with music and this guy PhillyPepper1000 is a great example of that.
Working with student bands and student worship, I often consult youtube covers to see if it is feasible for us to do a good job of songs, and came across this cover of Lifehouse “Storm”

Mostly I search out songs from the radio like 1,2,3,4 and New Soul to see how students do with it but i’m very impressed with this guys vocal talent and awesome acoustic playing. Enjoy! If you read this keep being creative. Let this motivate you to create great content, and flood the internet with it!

Here is his cover of Paramores “Hallelujah” Amazing!

Father & Friend Bathroom Cover

This song is great, it’s meant for two parts but I wanted to cover. I will be honest, I should have done one more take, but check this out and let me know what you think!

Youtube Spurs Music Creativity

I believe that there is more creativity on youtube with music than there is in a lot of places. It’s not unoriginal to take an idea of video looping and take it to a new level. Multi-track song editing and video editing is the new gig. This video is seriously amazing, and I wish I had the mind to be so creative and one day hope I can come up with something so clever. Enjoy. Also check out their youtube page PomplamooseMusic

You can purchase this song for .99 on iTunes HERE

Another youtube artist I hope to see music on iTunes very soon is Airto He sounds like Stevie Wonder and has just some amazing singing ability. I hope he keeps with the old style songs and I think he will do great. Amazing vocals and talented on many instruments as well. Here he is performing one of my favorite songs by Adele, “Chasing Pavements”

I’ve gained it and I’ve lost it. I haven’t been going to the gym like I usually do. Schedule is so busy, once or twice a week is all I am getting in.. I don’t like that. I’ve been eating way to many junky snack foods, that is over with. I have let my writing slip and not just write down random things. I’m going to fix that.

I don’t know what it is that causes us to lose motivation or in some instances momentum. We get rolling on something really good, but get so far away from where we started it fades into something we aren’t so sure about. I’m not sad or depressed, just feeling like I need some new motivation for the things that I enjoy doing so much.

So today that is all changing. What have you lost motivation for? Are you like me and want to be creative but sometimes don’t have the means to make what is in your head happen? Well, I saw a picture from a friend on twitter who didn’t let that get in the way. He wanted a sharkboy suit for his son, so he simply just started making one. Most of us may have looked at that and said it would be too hard or we couldn’t do it, but he decided to do it and the payoff was seeing the joy his son had, and one amazing Twitpic.

Motivation is out there. I think the key to it is setting your mind to it. It’s not something we can create or just comes upon us, it’s a decision. So don’t be like me and on a morning off, sit and wonder why your not motivated to do anything, and just do something.

UPDATE. Just a disclaimer. This video is a humurous spin off of the song from SonSeed “Jesus Is A Friend Of Mine It was discovered by someone and sad that it’s been tucked away. I’m pretty sure someone had it in a time capsule and just opened it to unleash all of it’s glory on us now. It’s funny and was probably very cutting edge in that day, but from our standpoint now it looks very silly.

I’m so glad someone took the time to record this video and send it for all of us to see. I think we should all be doing a cover of this song because of it’s level of fun and i’m pretty sure it will show up on some Kid’s worship album this year.

I found this post thanks to JayHyles mentioning someone told him about Crowder doing a cover of it but hasn’t found it yet. Props!

Here is my cover of Sam Sparros “Black and Gold”. My hope with this song, like a the others, is that you’ve never heard it and you’ll check it out and download the original version. He is a unique artist, but has a very cool sound. Make sure you visit my YouTube Page to subscribe, rate, comment, favorite and all that fun jazz. That will help me out a ton! I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!

ALSO, I know my site traffic has increased drastically but for some reason it’s all a bunch of lurkers. I don’t know who you are but I know you are all checking it out! So please feel free to comment. If you hate it, great, if you love it, awesome. Just let me know who you are and what you think!

A family from Brookwood Church is on the Biggest Losers Families and we will keep an eye on them and pray they win. They have a son with autism and another son who is part of our middle school group Wired. Very cool to see a local family going there and we will be supporting them!

Amy and Phillip-The dubbing is off on this casting call video but still cool.

There is also a clip of them on the website about them and a brief video of their family. Check it out HERE

Loving it. Google knocks MSN then gets ripped by MSN. Maybe the folks at google will check this out and see things that people are making fun of and don’t like with google. One part of the rap was that google bought youtube, but the search still stinks. Check it out. Short and funny.
